River Benue derby: Lobi Stars lost to their rivals in Lafia

A 49th minute quick tap inside Lobi Stars net by Nasarawa United’s Ikenna Offor from Dauda Maigishiri’s corner kick was all it takes the home boys to bury Lobi Stars in an NPFL Match Day 14 decided in Lafia on Sunday 7th March, 2021.

Lobi Stars put up a superlative performance but ended up with nothing to show for it as non of the created chances were utilized.

Game kicked off 4 PM with Lobi Stars Chinonso Okonkwo breaking the inertia, the game began with fast end to end situational incursions as both teams were showing good football artistry. The two teams at one time or the other came very close but no goal was recorded throughout the first half.

Lobi Stars technical crew introduced Abdulwasiu Mahmud to take over from Austin Ogunye before the start of the second stanza to benefit from a complimentary substitution opportunity before Nasarwa United’s Adamu Hassan took the second-half opener.

4 minutes in the second half Lobi Stars conceded a corner kick on the left side and was taken by Dauda Maigishiri, the ball sailed across the goal, Silas Nwankwo headed the ball unchallenged towards the goalmouth before Ikenna Offor tapped in to the net for the only goal of the match in favour of Nasarawa United.

The goal sparked reaction from the Kabiru Dogo tutored lads as they increased the tempo putting in everything to pull down the goal. Lobi Stars pulled out Mathias Samuel and Douglas Achiv and replace them with Segun Alebiosu and Jimoh Oni in the 58th minute.

Nasarawa United made three changes at a time as Chinedu Ohanachom, Haggai Katoh and Annas Yusuf replaced Dauda Maigishiri, Chidi Solomon and Adamu Hassan in 64th minute.

New entrant for Lobi Stars Segun Alebiosu added potency in the attack, he break away from the right in the 67th minute, his brilliant low cross found no team mate to convert to a goal.

88 minutes, Coach Bala Nikyu replaced Silas Nwankwo with King Osanga. 90+1 Abdulwasiu Mahmud received a pass from John Lazarus and made a solo effort as he dribbled through the thick legs in the defence of Nasarawa United, made a well placed pass to Zenke Tersoo facing the goal, instead of doing the finishing he shifted responsibility to Alebiosu who was positioned off the scoring angle, Alebiosu’s managed shot went off target.

Goal keeper Danlamin Unar of Nasarawa United kept falling and inviting medical attention which extended the game to 90+10 minutes as Referee finally call the game to an end. Nasarawa United went away with a lone goal victory over Lobi Stars.
