LOBI STARS, ENYIMBA INT’L END 1-1 IN MAKURDI.

One goal each from Lobi Stars’ Tiza Samuel in the 1′ and Reuben Bala from 45+1′ Penalty kick wrapped up the NPFL 2020/2021 Matchday 36 as both teams share the spoils inside the main bowl of The Aper Aku Stadium Makurdi on Wednesday July 28, 2021.

Enyimba took the kick off at exactly 4PM and lost the ball to Lobi Stars Douglas Achiv who directed a quick through pass to the right where Ozor Chinedu was running down the line, Ozor’s quick cross located Mathias Samuel but Enyimba’s Goal keeper Sabirou Bassa-Djeri saved with a punch to the advantage of Tiza Samuel who buried the ball in to net for the opener in the 1′ .

Enyimba reacted with fire works as their stakes were higher considering the standings of the table. Misses and counter misses from both teams drag the 1-0 goal situation towards the twilight of the first half when the Center Referee awarded a penalty to Enyimba and issued a yellow card to Goal keeper Stanley Nwabali who went out to rescue a 50/50 situation in the 44′ and the Penalty was converted by Captain Reuben Bala in 45+1 minute. The center Referee ended the first half 2′ later.

The second stanza resumed with Enyimba showing desperation to get another goal but Lobi Stars playing for pride resisted and rather showed more promises to clinching the 3 points at stake.

A 47′ free kick taken by Mathias Samuel was saved by the quick response of Goalkeeper Bassa-Djeri. Okonkwo, Mathias and Ogunye tormented the Enyimba defense which remained resolute and hoping for the point in kitty.

Coach Kabiru Dogo in a bid to add strength in front, pulled out a fagged out Tiza Samuel and introduced Sani Mohammed in the 67′ and replaced Mathias Samuel and Chinonso Okonkwo with Onuwa Chukwuka, Nick named the game changer by fans and super sub Monday Akile in 71′.

Lobi Stars Gaffer got it right with the substitution as Onuwa Chukwuka unarguably the Man of The Match (MOTM) made mince meat of Enyimba in midfield and deep in their defense to fans admiration but all the efforts couldn’t change the score line as the defence of Enyimba backed up with the excellent goal keeping of Bassa-Djeri resisted all the Onuwa Chukwuka’s led incursions.

Lobi Stars made their last change in the 87′ as Abiodun Kayode takes over from Austin Ogunye. Kayode made a 90+3′ effort as his extremely courageous cross from a disadvantaged position found no team mate to convert. The Center Referee ended the game at 90+5 as both team left with one point each and a scoreline of 1-1.

With this result, Enyimba has moved to the third position on the log in to the continental bracket with 62 points, while Lobi Stars maintained their 8th position on the log with 55 points.
